No shortage of chaos...
Apparently, a young man was killed in a hit-and-run this passing Monday. The following day his friends and others gathered in the middle of an intersection to demonstrate. Things then escalated into another event of needless violence once police tried to disperse the crowd. Yet, if you read this LA Time's article here, you might get an entirely different understanding of this story, as they report:
A vigil for the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash in South L.A. Wednesday afternoon was broken up in dramatic fashion by yet another hit and run that was captured on video.
As pedestrians and bicyclists gathered at Manchester and Normandie avenues to mourn a bicyclist who was fatally struck by a car just a day and a half earlier, a gold-colored sedan barreled through the intersection and hit a man crossing the street, sending his body flying through the air, video from KTLA-TV Channel 5 showed.
They then crop the front of the video off which shows how violent the protest was, leaving only to show a car hitting the individual. This and a number of other articles fail recognize the violent and defiant nature of this crowd with no right to block traffic that the police were attempting to break up and clear... NOT a "vigil" or a "peaceful protest"...
A pedestrian? Not a protester? Ok...
A vigil? Not a protest? Ok...
How many vigils for cyclist have you seen with people throwing their bikes at and kicking cop cars and blocking traffic in the middle of a busy intersection?... Not to mention that a random ambulance could be obstructed by this protest or any other emergency while this situation soon requires emergency assistance anyways because of their own actions and behavior. Is there anyone else to blame than themselves? I have sympathy for the protesters in that they care for their friend who's passed, but all they did was waste resources, attack police and injure another one of their friends, as the person hit by the car in the video was a friend of the young man killed on the prior day...
Unfortunately, as expected, the media is creating a false narrative that this was "peaceful vigil" rather than a violent protest. The police officer was met with violence and people throwing their bikes at his car when he was only doing his job, looking out for their safety and somehow that part was managed to be left out in the media's reporting!
Let me know if you have a different take or if you disagree with my assessment or think I'm missing something/leaving something out. Thank you!
