For as long as one exercises the latter then one deserves the former.
I have yet to make up my mind about this instance (in part because I could have benefited from a short summary of the crime being covered up) but I would like to throw this out there for both parties to reflect upon.

I also feel that you are in greater need of my guidance than he (he is of a heavier class than yourself rep-wise - and he seems to deride the content while you deride the user - something to mull over).
Therein already lies part of my advice. It is the easiest thing in the World to label something as rubbish (or drivel). It tends to be harder and yet more productive to explain why such is considered so.
As such, always probe the reasoning of a user. You might learn something - and you also pressure the user to go through your content while looking for materials for justification. Alternatively a recount of that user's personal perspective of the perspective concerned. Win either way.
Also, do try to avoid throwing labels at people. Reserve them for arguments (like he did) if you must.

Notice the bold text - its unnecessary (sentence would have worked well without it), potentially untrue (yet hard to call out as such as his comment lacked any backing reasoning) and, most importantly, non-insulting.
I honestly doubt @preparedwombat is a rational person @pathforger.
How can you reason with someone who ignores points of fact or truth?
