RE: Attack on Gab Proves Speech Was Never Free

in #news6 years ago

I have a gab account and had a similar reaction when I used it last year-lots of awful comments that turned me off to it.

While not a free speech absolutist, I tend to agree with your premise that powerful people will attack it when it suits their needs.

From the lens of the mighty, "free speech" is neither good nor bad, but whatever is politically expedient to hold or gain power will determine their reaction.

Totally agreed. I originally heard of Voat/Gab and it was said to be "neo nazis" I don't think that is the case as it gets mainstream attention. The issue with them is that they are trying to go about their mission via the old centralized way.

We think it is very important we continue to build up here and on other blockchain solutions like memo.cash(on bitcoin cash chain). You might be interested in what we do in the InformationWar

I've heard from people that Steemit does censor and ban. Have you found that to be true?

Content cannot be banned from the Steem chain. www.steemit.com can ban anyone who violates their Privacy Terms of their TOS. The blockchain is independent of the website www.steemit.com

Other sites can access the Steem blockchain like steempeak.com/mspsteem.com/busy.org

If you get banned from www.steemit.com you can still use those other ones, but your content would not show up on www.steemit.com, it would show up on the other ones.

There is no censorship in terms of content being removed from the blockchain(as that can't happen). Your posts could be removed from www.steemit.com if they ban you, but as said above they show up elsewhere. Or your posts could be downvoted to make them not visible. Your followers still see the posts, but others wouldn't.

Part of what we do in the @informationwar group is upvote posts that are negative so that they are seen(as long as it fits what we are all about)

Thanks. informationwar seems to be the only island here where truth is being posted. I'm assuming if we tag "politics" or something, we'll get flagged by normies and liberals afraid of seeing anything opposed to their narrative

you can use the tag politics/news and other tags :) No need to worry.

I actually don't have an issue with Gab's way of going about things. I think every site/service has a place, and there's plenty of room here for everyone. I do however have an issue with the ridiculous deplatformming that's going on, whether it's Infowars and Alex Jones, or Gab.
