The Syrian Armed Forces have said that it was Israel who fired missiles at Shayrat's base in Homs province, reported Al-Masdar news portal.
The Israeli army has not yet commented on the information.
The portal indicates that the aircraft crossed the Syrian border from Lebanon, assuming that it was Israeli aircraft.
In the early hours of 17 local time, the media reported that Syrian anti-aircraft systems repelled an attack near the city of Homs.
According to several sources, the Syrian military intercepted about 10 missiles launched against the air base of Shayrat. Al-Mayadeen TV reported that the attack did not cause any fatalities or material damage as the Syrian air defense intercepted all missiles launched.
Commenting on reports of the attack, a Pentagon official told Sputnik that the US is not conducting military operations near Shayrat's base.
Later Arab media, citing sources in the Syrian army, reported on another three-missile attack on the al-Dumayr airfield 50 kilometers from Damascus.
According to the Al-Mayadeen channel, the airfield was attacked while syrian military were discussing an agreement for the departure of the militants of that area. The channel said that this attack also did not result in casualties, and the missiles were intercepted by anti-aircraft defense systems.
