Even though I don't agree with the hard stance YouTube is taking, I get the logic behind it. It's not like we didn't anticipate and see this coming since the direction has been pretty clear for years now.
One thing is crucial to remember if you are trying make a living on YouTube or on any other platform. It's to never put all your eggs in one basket. Period. It's naive and irresponsible to do and when circumstances will inevitably change at some point, you will possibly have a really hard time adapting.
The key word here is adaptation, or rather, the ability to adapt to new situations and environments. Always search for new/alternative sources of income outside the platform so that when the sh*t hits the fan, you're not going to be completely crippled.
