The head of the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday doubled down on his criticism of former RNC chief Michael Steele, accusing him of having a lack of grace.
MSNBC host Hallie Jackson asked American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp whether CPAC communications director Ian Walters had been reprimanded for saying that Steele was picked as RNC chairman because “he was a black guy.”
“Absolutely not,” Schlapp replied, saying he agreed with Walters that the GOP had been too “cynical” in its approach to minorities. “He has a right to speak on these issues.”
Michael Steele has always seemed like a cautious centrist. Even when the was the RNC chairman he was speaking about more inclusion. It’s a shame that the media implies that most conservatives are racist. Unfortunately many are, and the dog whistling by republicans is getting frustrating.
Most Republicans ARE racist. Some may not even know they are racist but they are by the policies that they support. Most support keeping confederate statues and flags. Most support stricter penalties for minor drug offenses which disproportionately effects minorities. Most support taking away rights for LBGT community. Most think that blacks commit more crimes than whites, which is factually incorrect. Most believe that blacks are taking advantage of food stamp programs when in reality there are more poor white people on food stamps than black people. Sorry conservatives but you ARE racist.
