In October 2015 Uber came in Croatia. Immediately a lot of people started using Uber application because it's modern, fast and easy to use, and most important - it's cheaper than traditional taxi. In 2017 Uber is available in Croatian cities all over the coast - Zadar, Novalja, Šibenik, Split and Dubrovnik and there's even new service - Uber Boat.
But Uber has, due to his popularity, provoked strong protests from traditional taxi drivers. Taxi drivers are angry becaause they work less and don't have incomes like in 90's.
In June and July 2017 37 Uber drivers and tourist have been attacked. It's leaves bad picture of Croatia. A lot of drivers don't report attacks, so numbers are probably even bigger.
Taxi drivers have blocked the roads, they protest loud and demand from the Ministry of Traffic to ban the Uber application.
I personally used the taxi until Uber came in Croatia. First of all because it is much cheaper. For example, from the city center to the airport, the taxi charges between 100 and 170 HRK, depending on the crowd. Uber will cost you 90 HRK.
Secondly, the Zagreb taxi drivers are very bitter, they always complain, they drive old, bad cars and they are not polite. They used to work a bit and earn a lot because they had monopoly on the market for years.
The times have changed, you have to work hard to get users and to keep them.
I RAISE MY VOICE FOR UBER!
Does Uber work in your country and how did the taxi drivers take it? Is there also physical violence?
Strike in Zagreb, June 21 2017 - Taxi drivers blocked on of the most busiest streets in Zagreb, Street of Vukovar city
Taxi drivers did the same thing in Montreal, Qc, Canada last year. The government needs to take action if they want the war to stop.
How did it end in Montreal? Is Uber still available?
Uber is still available. They had some new laws to help taxis. But not everybody is happy.
