Elon Musk, in my opinion, has to be one of the most visionary leaders the world has seen. He is single handedly trying to transition humanity to a whole new level, by introducing technologies that frankly, should have been pretty much developed by now.

Through his efforts at Tesla Motors, SpaceX, SolarCity, Boring Company, Musk is leading the charge to revolutionize transportation, energy and establish ourselves as a space faring civilization.

Well a few days ago, Musk set a major milestone towards the transportation revolutionizing goal by unveiling an electric semi truck with tons of awesome features in a highly anticipated event.

Not only that, Musk even pulled an Apple-esque “one more thing” by unveiling the second version of the Roadster and boy what a car that is going to be.

All Electric Semi Truck

While Tesla has already started to penetrate the personal transport space with its highly coveted electric cars, now, thanks to the electric semi truck, it is aiming to penetrate the trucking industry as well.

What is more, is the company is doing things in style as the electric semis are literally poised to embarrass the diesel counterparts, thanks to the cutting edge innovation in typical Tesla style.

First off, the semi can do 0-60 mph in just 5 seconds (without any load) compared to the 15 seconds that a diesel truck would do. Even with a maximum load of 80,000 pounds, the electric semi can do the 0-60 in 20 seconds.

Perhaps, the most impressive feature about this is the range of 500 miles at maximum load on a single charge! As Musk said, 80% of the routes are less than 250 miles long, so the driver will be able to deliver a load and come back without recharging. You can also charge the semi up to a range of 400 miles in just 30 minutes.

The cutting edge design of the truck, four independent motors, and a large battery pack all contribute towards the insane speed and range of the semi truck. The interiors are pretty awesome too unlike the cluttered space of a traditional semi.

Safety is another huge area of improvement with the electric semi with automatic emergency braking, automatic lane keeping and forward collision warning. If you have a medical emergency in the truck, the truck will stay in lane, gradually stop and automatically call emergency services for you.

Also, Musk claims that jackknifing, which is the “worst nightmare” for a truck, will be impossible for this truck and the truck windshields are “thermonuclear explosion proof”. But wait, there is more, Musk also said that Tesla guarantees that the truck won’t break down for 1 million miles.

On the economic side of things, Musk also said that driving an electric semi will be cheaper per mile than driving a diesel truck, taking into account all costs, though he didn’t announce any price for the semi. If you order the semi today, you will get it in 2019.

Roadster 2.0 - The ‘One More Thing’

In a surprise move, at what seemed like the end of the event, one of trailers from the electric semi opened up and out came a shiny new supercar and Musk went, “turns out there was some cargo in the truck”.

As you know, the story of Tesla began with the Roadster which was a sports car and the company hasn’t upgraded it for years now, but in the event, Musk finally unveiled the next generation of the Roadster and boy is it sexy.

But it’s not just another sports car too. It is a car, that breaks records and beats out other super cars, all while being an all electric car. I think we should all pretty much expect this much by Tesla at this point.

The car does 0-60 mph in just 1.9 second which is a first for any car and it also does 0-100 mph in just 4.2 seconds. So, it will be able to do a quarter mile in just 8.9 seconds which is another world record. The top speed is more than 250 miles per hour.

But you know what is the most unbelievable thing about the car? It’s 620 miles range on a single charge which is another world record, for any electric car to go above 1000 km on a single charge.

What is more, is Musk said that all these features are for the base model which costs $200,000! Imagine what the top end will be able to do. The car, unfortunately, will be available in 2020. I think this car is perfect for Elon’s mission, to “give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars.”

I was reading that the other day, I love tesla. I was thinking of investing but nah there is way more to be made by holding crypto right now.

Yup, crypto offers more promise.

Tesla always create something different, this time they create this beast.

Yes, it is a beast.

It is amazing the technology we are able to develop now days. enjoyed post, keep up great content, Thanks

Yeah, pretty amazing :D

The Tesla unveiling at Jet Center Los Angeles appeared to be over on Thursday. Founder Elon Musk – dressed casually in jeans and a four-button jacket – had wrapped up his introduction of the company's all-electric 'Semi' truck, an impressive piece of heavy machinery that may just green the global trucking industry.

The Semi is a powerful long-haul truck; fully loaded as an 18-wheeler, it can travel 500 miles on a single charge. And Musk vowed that Semi drivers will be able to recharge in 30 minutes at a planned network of Tesla "megachargers" – all powered powered by solar energy. "The truck is running on sunlight," Musk said. With heavy trucks accounting for more than 5 percent global greenhouse emissions, the Tesla Semi is, potentially, a transformative clean technology.
The Semi also has revolutionary styling: With no engine under the hood, the cabin is pushed forward. The truck has just one real seat – behind a steering wheel that is centered at the front of the cabin. Musk argued that the truck is cheaper to operate than a traditional diesel truck. And he teased a "convoy" technology – with several automated trucks following a lead Semi with a human driver – that could make transport by Tesla Semi cheaper than moving cargo by rail: "That’s really quite profound," he said. Promising a 2019 ship date, Musk then waved goodbye to to the crowd. "That's it for Tesla Semi," he said. "Thanks!"

A Tesla Semi that had been parked behind Musk, in the open bay of the packed airplane hangar where the unveiling was staged, began pulling away. But suddenly the gray-black truck – its body made of unpainted carbon fiber – stopped, and began backing up. Like a scene out of Knight Rider, the truck's trailer tilted up and lowered to the ground. The trailer's doors opened. Smoke and light filled the air. And an unannounced surprise rolled onto the pavement: a candy-apple-red, second-generation Tesla roadster.

The sports car peeled out of the hangar, and raced out of sight down a runway at improbable speed – disappearing from view for several long seconds – before burning rubber back into the hangar, screeching to a halt.

The convertible four-seat roadster has jaw-dropping specs. It goes from 0-60 in 1.8 seconds, and can travel a quarter mile in just 8.9 seconds. "This is the first time that any production car has broken nine seconds in a quarter mile," Musk said. "The new Tesla roadster will be the fastest production car ever made – period."

The new Tesla roadster is breaking more than speed records, however. The car has a range of 620 miles – nearly double Tesla's current best for a passenger car. The roadster is a proof of concept that any notion of "range anxiety" – the fear of running out of juice mid-trip that has hindered the adoption of electric cars – can be a thing of the past. "These numbers sound nutty but they’re real," Musk insisted. "You'll be able to travel from L.A. to San Francisco – and back – without recharging."

The big idea isn't only to please wealthy speed demons – or entice investors who’ve recently soured on Tesla stock. "The point of doing this," Musk said, "is just to give a hard-core smackdown to gasoline cars."

Brilliant summarization of the event. I think you should do a post of your own with this.

This is HUGE news to truck companies. Saving LOTS of money in the long run and with better traffic control the future is right now!

I think so too. This is gonna be huge.

technologies that frankly, should have been pretty much developed by now.
how would you propose to do that?
Technological leaps can't be planned...
The problem is energy density. LIon batteries are just BARELY good enough..and they are EXPENSIVE. The whole point of owning a truck is to make a profit. The batteries alone in the semi-truck would cost over one hundred thousand dollars...without the truck.
So...you're looking at a quarter million dollars price tag.
Can you afford that?

Depends how long they last and how much are they saving in gas?

if you can't afford to buy it that doesn't matter.

I guess it's only for large corporations right now. Loblaws just ordered 25 and i think walmart ordered some.

I was as trucker (owned my own truck) for over two decades.
It's changed a LOT since I started.
The government is driving the small guy OUT (big surprise)
Pretty soon there will ONLY be big corporations.

By "technologies that should have been developed by now" I was talking about the general energy storage technologies by utilising clean energy.

And Tesla hasn't revealed the price of the truck yet.

Really cool technology.

He is single handedly trying to transition humanity to a whole new level? Elon is just a PR guy for Tesla!

Do a little research.

The future is now :) voteme!

it seems so :)

I saw a roadster at a solar conference in CO a few years ago, beautiful car with a beautiful young lady in it! This one is incredible! Should be great fun to drive

In my opinion, this is much better looking than the last one.

Great post... I would have beaten you yesterday with this article if I had the time, instead I let it slip for some other moment haha

haha In fact, I posted this one day late too. :P

I am impressed with this type of technologies’ advances, in fact as the time of the evolution of batteries cells is principal thanks improved by mining's science, the research of new ways how to obtain raw materials and by the discovery of new types of materials like Nano-technological supplies, with the time is more and more cheap create new industrial supplies and consumables, so due this in our word is developing new battery cells of bigger performance, autonomy, less size and weight, what does means this?, a final product which is capable of catch hold together with the economic growth of the Word in order to make himself auto-eco-sustainable.
