When the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) tested Amazon's "Rekognition" facial recognition software by scanning the 535 members of the US congress to a public database of only 25,000 public criminal mugshots the systems produced 28 false matches. With only a default confidence of 80 percent, and an Amazon recommended confidence of using 95%, there are concerns about law enforcement using this technology for 12 dollars a month as part of Amazon packages to potentially lead to devastating consequences to individual freedom.
