Drones are fascinating - they offer so many different possibilities for photographers and filmmakers!
Now, one of the biggest Drone companies in the world, DJI, has just released a new version of their most advanced drone: the DJI Inspire 2.
The "Inspire" Models are DJI's series for professionals - so they're more advanced, but also more expensive than other models like the Phantom 4 for example.
With the new Inspire 2, DJI have focused especially on improving the speed and also the camera quality.
The new model can reach a speed of up to 108 km/h (the Inspire 2 could only go as fast as 80km/h) in a horizontal flight.
The maximum speeds for a climb flight are 7m/s, and for a dive 9m/s.
This increase in speed can be achieved through a less overall weight, by using Aluminium and Magnesium for the body.
The battery life has also been improved: instead of 18 minutes, the drone can now fly for up to 25 minutes (this may vary, depending on the weather conditions and flight maneuver).
And you can fly as high as 4,9km above sea level!
The new main camera that the Inspire 2 offers is of the type Zenmuse, but any other Zenmuse cameras can be installed as well.
It manages to capture video with an amazing 5,2K quality and 20,8 Megapixels.
That means that the quality is 5 times as sharp as regular High Definition!
But this is the first DJI drone that actually features two cameras:
There's a separate 8MP camera at the front of the drone that helps the pilot to navigate.
This way, it's actually possible to fly this drone with 2 people - the 'master' and 'slave' controller can stand up to 100m apart, and while the actual camera footage can be streamed to the cameraman and the pilot only focuses on the navigational camera.
The obstacle avoidance systems have also been improved for the Inspire 2.
It has 2 optical sensors that analyze the front and the back of the device, as well as 2 infrared sensors that monitor the top.
DJI has also introduced new autonomous flight modi, that add more possibilities for interesting shots:
- "Spotlight Pro" can have the drone focused on one object that it keeps in the center of the shot, while you can freely move the drone around it.
- "Tap Fly" is a function that allows the pilot to tap anywhere on his screen - and the drone will then fly to that specific point autonomously.
- "Active Track" makes the drone follow a certain object, person or animal automatically, and keeps it in the center of the shot while the object moves.
The Inspire 2 starts at around $3,000 , and can go up to $7,000 for a premium combo.
Personal Opinion
I already own the Phantom 4, and I'm more than happy with it - it offers amazing picture quality and stability, it can go far and fast, and it has many different features.
So I agree with the fact that the Inspire 2 is only aimed at professionals - other models from DJI already fulfill every filmmaker's wishes.
With the Inspire 2, DJI is trying to stay competitive in the professional filmmaking industry, and it's an amazing product, but it will hardly find its way into the household of an average consumer.
I would still love to test it out though, and experience the difference myself!

very fascinating and fun!
Drool.........................
... exactly
I just ordered my phantom 4, so excited! but this is on a whole other level of course.
the phantom 4 is amazing as well, you'll have lots of fun with it!
I’d love to try this out one day!
yes, me too - the speed must be incredible
100 km/h? that’s INCREDIBLE .. but what would you need that for? to shoot action scenes in cars, I guess?
I guess hollywood needs it for certain shots - average consumers don't really, but it's still fun
$3000 - up to $7000 for a drone - yes this is really only for professionals lol
the price is very high, but like I said the cheaper models are still amazing too!
It records 5k video, but who even has a 5k screen to enjoy the full quality :D
true that!
5k is so advanced that hardly anyone can really enjoy the difference
I have the phantom 3 and I’m still very happy with it. DJI offers amazing quality products so even the older models are still awesome!
Yes, I think so too! Thanks for your feedback!
the specs on this are amazing - it’s sooo fast and has 5k quality as well! This would be amazing to play around with
the features and possibilities with this are awesome, I'd love to try it as well!
This drone looks really cool!
