Thousands of people left on April 15 to the streets and squares of Jinghong city, in the province of Yunnan (China), to sprinkle with water. The event took place during the New Year holiday of the Dai ethnic group, local media reported.
According to the calendar of this ethnic group, present in the south of the country and in Thailand, Laos, Burma and Vietnam, this April 15 marked the beginning of the year 1380, and as is customary on that date they celebrated their spectacular Water Festival . According to tradition, during this celebration, people throw buckets of water at each other to give themselves luck.
