They are the latest fad, platforms like Airbnb, where homeowners rent a house for days, or Uber where the owners of a car use their services to transport people. The last panacea for people to earn a living, although there are a few that undoubtedly might make a living. 
The reality is that the vast majority of those who are on this platform do not get salaries beyond $1,000 (US data) according to a Pew Research Center study somewhat logical. As more and more people are aiming at these platforms to try to earn money, trying to earn a living in a perfect competition market but when the competition is perfect, unless you offer a highly added value that provides a differential service or you will only be able to compete on price.
The platform that gives back to its users the most is AirBnb, where on average (in the US) the user gets $924 of revenue while the median does not get more than $ 440 a month, with 15% of its users earning less than $ 100 a month, although very few, manages to gain an income above the $ 10,000 a month. The data above and below is to be given a second thought, specially when one quarter of the US population is trying to make a living on these platforms, the reality is that most of them do not make a decent incomes.
