Crypto coins now is like the internet in 1994

2018 is so far not yet the year of the crypto coins. But the development of technology is still at a very early stage, says Chris McCann of Greylock Partners. Then volatility is not abnormal. McCann compares the current development of crypto coins with the internet of 1994.
In other words: crypto coins are still very early in their development. And that can mean 2 things: crypto coins can change the world like the internet or it can still end with a sizzler.
Chris McCann shows on the basis of a few graphs how young the development of crypto coins is currently and how many similarities there are to the Internet of the 90s.

Crypto coins vs Internet

The growth in the number of crypto users follows a similar course as the growth in the number of internet users in the 1990s.
Crypto is currently where the internet was in 1994.

You can compare the period 1991 - 1995 of the internet with the period 2014 - 2017 for crypto coins.
McCann compares the growth in the number of website with the growth in the number of tokens.

Finally, he compares the number of internet companies that received investments from venture capitalists with the number of ICOs in crypto coins.
A similarity can also be found here to a large extent.

New assets or new internet

Chris McCann does not see crypto coins as a new asset class to invest in. In that case, crypto coins would not be so similar to the growth of the internet.
He sees crypto coins as a new, decentralized internet:

"If you view the core use cases of cryptocurrencies as an application platform for ... the decentralized internet, then the growth of users & DApps would be comparable to the growth of internet users & website growth."

However, it is too early to say whether crypto coins have a similar future to the internet. The past is never a guarantee for the future.
