Do you trust the mainstream media?

in #news7 years ago

Many people unfortunately still do not realize that only six major corporations own and control around 90% of America's mainstream media channels including TV stations, newspapers, magazines etc... These six companies are: News Corp; GE; Disney; Viacom; Time Warner and CBS. Here's one link of many:- http://uk.businessinsider.com/these-6-corporations-control-90-of-the-media-in-america-2012-6. Further, only 15 billionaires own all of America's news media companies:- https://www.forbes.com/sites/katevinton/2016/06/01/these-15-billionaires-own-americas-news-media-companies/#fca9567660ad.

In other words, this is not democratic in any way as the mainstream media is simply controlled propaganda to brainwash and sway public opinion in favor of those of the controlling elites. Many believe what they see on the TV news to be the gospel truth when it is often just a pack of lies and deceit. If a small ruling elite want to control a population then they must have control over these media channels and so they do, equally restricting any alternative views or opinions from coming out.

Sort:

Give Steemit Some time and it will become fierce competition for these media conglomerates.

Steemit already has groups and organizations trying to control your voice through your vote. Take a good look at @earthnation, at some of grumpycats, berniesanders, transisto, and others on steemit. So any time someone wants to tell you how often, how much or who for, or anything else to do with your vote, do not buy into it. It is your vote, your vote=your voice. Do not buy into their lofty quoted goals of equality for all, it's pure and simple bullshit. You started at level 25, I started at level 25, I started with the 15 steem they gave me to start with, and built on that. Lots of people have built on the free steem they received when they signed up, we all who started on the freeside, are all equal.

Steemit will become competition only if we protect our voices from those that want to control it. Protect your vote at all cost. Don't sell it, don't loan it out, keep it and use it. It is your vote though so if you want to sell it that is your choice and your right to do it if you think it is the right thing to do. I don't. I don't think vote buying is a good thing either. But it is there vote to do with as they see fit. Protect yours and their rights to the vote. Do not buy into vote redistribution.
