This article calls to mind in the US a plea that I saw circulated about protecting the Johnson amendment recently, which I very much want to see stay, but it was all phrased to warn of the other parties' extreme charities....this is not a partisan issue. Charities are ways to funnel money around paying the taxes, making it even more difficult for people to fund their own lives and voluntary causes that they see fit.
The hands-off approach that many people have about looking into the people they give their power to is absolutely detrimental in people's ability to see that society is capable of impacting what we accept, once we see the locus of power within us and not some mystic, pre-planned "destiny".
