There is nothing more important than peace in this crazy world and now the summit between the United States and North Korea appears to be off. For now at least. So what should President Trump do to get the peace talks back on track? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Well, according to Trump's comments yesterday, he is tightening the screws on the maximum pressure and sanctions against NK. But idk if that is enough to get Kim Jong Un to the table?
I think that is part of the plan but not enough.
Trump did already get the 3 hostages back safely. I would maybe give them an olive branch of some sort. Their country is starving. What if we gave the poorest parts of the country some large shipments of food as a gesture of good faith?
Peace through strength is what Trump preaches but yes, helping out the less fortunate could be looked upon kindly by the people of North Korea.
Unfortunately Kim Jong-un will frame anything that the West gives to the North Korean as something that he gave to the people. Third world dictators have a long history of using charity given to their country to strengthen their regime and to oppress their people.
this has been tried before during catastrophic famine under previous, Clinton and/or Bush, administration. the intent was good. the execution was not. the required infrastructure needed to distribute the aid was not in place. if it was, it was in regime's control. the intended aid fell into the regime's hand at the end, not the needed.

NK is a failed state led by a crazy man.
While the future of Korea is extremely important, the summit itself isn't. If Kim Jong-un wants to use the summit as a stage for political theatrics, then Trump is right to avoid it.
The one shining light in the Korean problem is that if Korea unifies without violence, Koreans and the world would get another reminder of how horrible Communism is for the people.
So, I don't care if the summit takes place but I hope the world leaders have their eyes on a peaceful resolve to the Korean stand off.
His administration should stop talking about Libya. North Korea is obsessed with what happened to Libya and mentioning the Libyan model is setting them off.
He should make sure to keep John Bolton and Mike Pence out of this as much as possible. They clearly don't want the peace talks to happen at all.
