Just because you've never heard of someone saving a life with a gun doesn't mean it doesn't happen. This issue is very complicated and simply eliminating all guns isn't the answer in the U.S.
Crime is low in Germany for other reasons as well. I noticed that you mentioned London, guns are illegal there how do you explain the high violent crime rate?
I'm sorry you have such a narrow view, but that is your right. Just because you don't think there is a good use for guns does not mean there is not a good use for them. I know that trying to convince you of this would frustrate us both. So I'll just end by saying I wish you the best.

I mentioned London because Dan Dicks mentioned it as an argument for a place with gun control and high crime.
Putting a narrow view mindset over me doesn't really help your case. I rather see your view narrow because there is only bad use for a gun and that is intimidation, pain and death. There is now way around a negative spiral and as soon as you allow that kind of weapon or actually any kind of weapon, specifically designed as such, into your life you have a problem more than less.
In the Hermetic teachings it says "As above, so below. As within, so without." Be careful what thoughts you project onto your reality. Gandhi didn't win India's freedom with guns either.
You try to fight fire with fire.
