The info on child marriage in the US is shocking. Until your post, I was totally unaware of it. Maybe this is one issue that US voters can impact by contacting their respective state representatives as well as local child advocacy groups. I understand that the "religious freedom" bit is rather thorny, but we have to have the cojones to stand up for children, and in the same spirit we also have to ring the alarm bell on the issues of increasing FGM in western countries and male circumcision (the latter which seems to be the norm in the US).
Legalized pedophilia and child mutilation in our so-called civilized, enlightened countries, and we don't even notice?

wow i figured it was limited to one or 2 backwards states, but while all states have minimum legal age of 18 without consent, 21 states have no minimum age with parental consent or in case of pregnancy etc and 29 have a minimum age between 13-18 in those cases.. Delaware became the first US state to ban child marriage.. ridiculous!!
