The U.K. has enacted a series of measures that are designed to outlaw its citizens from boycotting Israel. They can boycott anyone else,, just not Israel. In France, activists were arrested, >and prosecuted< for the wearing of Tee-shirts that advocated the boycott of Israeli goods.
Now in the US, a similar measure is gaining steem [if you will], It is called the Israel Anti-Boycott Act (S. 720), and was introduced by Ben Cardin (D) of Maryland , on March 23rd. The JTA (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) reports that this bill “was drafted with the assistance of AIPAC, the [American Israel Public Affairs Committee].” In fact, AIPAC, in its 2017 lobbying agenda, identified the passage of this bill as one of its top lobbying priorities for the year:
Can you say; Traitors?
A similar measure was introduced to the House on the same day by two Republicans and one Democrat. It has already amassed 234 co-sponsors.
Of the a fore mentioned bill, 43 senators have taken up this cause— 29 Republicans and 14 Democrats — Republican Rob Portman of Ohio and Democrat Ben Cardin of Maryland are said to be the primary sponsors of the bill. These senators are apparently not dissuaded by the fact that: “Any US citizen guilty of violating the prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison”.
When it comes to Israel, The U.S. Congress is prepared to go to any length, including stifling your freedom of speech,, and freedom of choice.
A free people should have the right to participate in an economic boycott of foreign goods and to express support for an economic boycott of a country that practices apartheid.
Voltaire is quoted as saying, “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”
