Whole foods which has been in the market for over 40 years will be bought by Amazon for 13.7 billion dollars.Amazon is buying whole foods for $42 per share and it will be all cash.
Activist investor Jana Partners took a 9% stake in Whole Foods in April and pushed the company to look into strategic options including a sale and i suspect Jana also organised this deal prior to profit from whole foods.
Couldn't believe it when I heard this. I'm not surprised they bought up a grocery store; they were already headed that direction themselves, but I didn't suspect whole foods; maybe a smaller store. Pretty excited though, hopefully it'll drive their prices down, or at least expand their 365 stores.
Everything is for sale, at the right price.
