Elon Musk has been right about most things he says. I'm inclined to believe him on this. Its an interesting thought though, for those who control deep AI and are able to wield it effectively will be light years ahead of the competition in any arena. However there is always the risk that we end up fighting against AI & that's when humans will find we have suddenly been eclipsed by something of our own making.
the danger of AI is mostly in creating the kind that is extremely efficient in solving it's goals but otherwise oblivious to any side effect, ethics, or impact on the world around it. Deep learning has the capacity to create things good and bad, with high order of magnitude in either direction, so he is absolutely right.
