At least if you don't give them constant upvotes on their posts, then appreciating the efforts they make in reading and commenting on your posts. Nobody wants to go or remain where they are not appreciated.
When comments are not appreciated or responded to, it breeds ground for reduction of engagement
It's not what the system is pushing us to do, it's what the system was originally designed to do, and nobody around here working on the core has half a brain to take it any further.
To tell you the truth, I think we have already broken this point with the last HF.
It was good in some cases but it also kills the engagement. The very same people is upvoted automatically and constantly and the content discovery is really low...or, perhaps this is only what I felt myself after being around since June 2017.
if we think join to steem just an effort to pAy our post, it is tottaly right.

but if we just enjoy this plaform as other social media, make a post as we do in facbook, twitter and reward become an other bonus we will.find excitements.

Do they mean the engage token? Since hf21 most upvoted on comments become worthless especially from smaller accounts like mine, so engagement has dropped a bit. It seems that Engage is trying to tackle this issue.
Are you aware, the token comes out when the price of the steem collapses.
Suppose the token came out while the price of steam was still above the cloud, I don't think its appearance would be phenomenal.
I have several types of tokens, almost all of them are useless.

when others do reward contests then dont buy engagement because they make most people get nothing and 90% times their friends win, but when you do those daily posts upvoting everyone (so a contest with 100% winners) you are.
It gives people a reason to post, but that is kind of the lure of Steem to begin with. The ability to get a small amount of crypto by engaging with the blockchain. It's definitely not all balloons and ponies. It's kind of like radio stations giving away free money to their listeners
If buying genuine engagement is a thing, I would like to see more of that. Vast majority of social media users are content consumers and not content creators. Rewarding content consumers and encouraging engagement is the key for success.

Why do the top accounts get the most engagement? Because they create such awesome content. If that was they case they would go somewhere else and make a lot more money. Its because top SP accounts give out the most rewards and when you dont or cant get noticed organically youre hoping for a witty comment to get the author to check out your comment and either follow you for future upvotes or upvote some of your content.
