Growing Up in A Nigerian Home

in #nigeria7 years ago

A typical Nigerian home has some traits you cannot miss if you've stayed in one.

Growing up in a Nigerian home involves remaining an insignificant amount of food in the plate while eating in a group because the last person to eat will wash the plate.

You cannot miss the sarcastic answers our mothers give us. Me: Mummy where should I drop the food?
Mum: On my head.

...and the times where they will call you from another room to come and pick something that is two feets away from them.

Growing up in a Nigerian home involves having an aunty that is always hungry whenever she visits. When you see this shoe outside you know they are around.

Lemme not even mention those amebo neighbours that will be looking at you anyhow after your mum or dad scolds you.

There will always be an Uncle that promises to get you a job after school and stop picking your calls when they hear you have graduated.

Complain about stomach ache and you will hear things like "why won't your stomach pain you when you are always pressing your fone?" or for girls "op you have not starting messing up yourself?"

Growing up in Nigeria involves meeting people (relations) you didn't know exist during festive seasons or occasions and eating excess jollof rice because grandma will over feed you.images(10).jpgImage source
....if you do not forward the "Happy New Year" messages sent to you to others then you probably did not grow up in Nigeria.

Let's have fun. Add anything I might have missed.

Sort:

That particular uncle or aunty that you must not eat at their house. If yu do you are on youe own. Lolz

Lolz.... I forgot that one oooo

Hahahaaaa..... This is super epic. I can literally relate to everything example cited here.
Nice post dear.

Lolz. Thanks dear

Life was funfiled while growing up, i feel like becoming a baby again

Seriously dear. It was

Lol... you'd be spanked again for doing minor things.

Hahhahahaha
Growing up in Nigerian home
When you go out to play with friends and happen to hear the sound of Dad's car a distance away,
That's the perfect moment to break Usian Bolt's 100m record.

Also not forgetting the "Reset Slaps" you get from uncle and aunt when they feel you've disrespected them.

Hahahahaha. Slap that can change your destiny

Those amebo neighbors?
The runaway uncles?
First hand experience

Chai. Don't worry. E go better

Growing up as the only girl amongst 4 boys, if I dare cry laidis and dad happens to be around, beatings will fall on all 4 of them...both the guilty and the innocent. I was a princess mehn.

You see you? Busy causing troubles

If I don't, who will? 😎

That picture of that shoe just summarized everything.. Lmao

Hahahaha. Ionno why they like that shoe

Nothing is more fascinating to me than the sarcastic replies from African mothers. Nice post dear

Its inbuilt walai

The most annoying one is when they call you to come pick something very close to them

See this lazy sombori

If they shorten your name when calling you, you are safe. Should they call you by your full name, you are in trouble. How about when they call you by your full name then add your surname? You're finished.

Hahaha forgot that one sef
