Are the female folks taking over? Are they better Mathematicians?

in #nigeria7 years ago (edited)

Hello steemians
This post is more of a follow up post to my earlier Post Mathematicians are inventors;let's invest in them.

Did anyone notice Abike in that video ? Did you noticed the very humble background that young girl is from? I must confess I was so happy for that young girl having been a part of the winners on that edition of COWBELL Pedia. You can obviously see that Abike's mother expressed herself in the local yoruba language (language spoken by the Southwesterners in Nigeria). She most likely do not have a formal education and here daughter being encouraged and compensated for here excelence is just a game changer for her and a big encouragement for other young ones with such humble backgrounds but with something upstairs.
Even looking at the winner in the senior category, you will agree with me that the program is touching lives and having a positive impact.

Today's discuss is on the immediate past edition of the show wherein surprisingly and encouragingly, the female folks took the larger share of the available prizes. It got to a point on the show that I wondered if the female folks were taking over..lol Infact, only one male participant made it to the final in the junior category while all top positions were taken by 3 girls. The senior category was keenly contested by both genders with equal numbers making it to the final. But do you know what happend? Just one guy made it to the prize worthy position by clinching the first position-which was even by the whiskers- while the other two went to two girls...wow!

**5 girls went home with 5 out of 6 available prizes.

This obviously means a lot. It speaks much volume as to what investing in the education of the female child could get us. Gone are the days when these citizens could just be brushed to the side. In fact, it had been my observation from the past that any female student who really love maths does so with lots of passion and given the opportunity could beat her male folks to the game anytime.

There used to be this lady, Yetunde from a secondary school in my state(Ogun State) during my secondary school days. Talk of Jets competitions, she is there blazing hot. Yetunde was well known for her exceptional brillance and always took the major prizes on price giving day (most especially, that of mathematics). I had friends then who attended same school with here and had always tried to beat her to the game every session but it always pans out that she will beat them by the slightest of margins.

Seeing these young ladies shinning on COWBELL Pedia for me was the beginning of a new era. All thanks to the organizers of the show too who insisted that mixed schools must present at least two girls in both category of the competition

Please do not make a mistake of seeing just the finals, try as much to see other episodes wherein other ladies were on the top of their games too.

By the way, before I hand off my key pad. What's it about schools from Ota in Ogun State and mathematics? Did you notice that over over 4 students from this part of the state made it to the final in the junior category with 3 of them coming from thesame school ; Ambassadors College and more surprisingly, they were the top 3.

The senior category didn't leave out the gurus from this same Ota as 2 students from Ota total academy and 3 from same Ambassadors college made it to the finals while the 3 participants from Ambassadors went home with the top prizes.Yes !!!

In conclusion, just one school went home with the available prizes... Isn't that amazing ? I'm already thinking of enrolling my unborn kids there (subject to boo boo's agreement lol.). Well, worthy of mention too are the guys from Ondo state, they are quite in the game too.

That is the situation now. Women have taken over. I can authoritatively tell you because that is my profession.

What's your profession? Women?

Lol... Maybe @ebohio2008 needs to reframe. Maybe he is a teacher.

Ogun and Ondo......Maths competitions! Good to know!

Obviously !!!. The winner of the maiden edition in d senior category is from Ondo. In all, there is a large level of participation from schools in Ota, Ogun State precisely... I don't know how those guys do it. In my secondary school days too, there used to be this public secondary school, Iganmode high school that clears any available prize in major competitions. I have been envying those guys a long while now.
