The history of Nigeria can be traced to prehistoric settlers i.e. Nigerians, living in the area as early as 1100bc, There are countless African civilizations that settled in the region that is referred to as Nigeria today. Nigeria Became a British protectorate in 1901, and colonization lasted until 1960, when an independence movement succeeded in gaining Nigeria its independence.

Nigeria gained her independence from British on 1st of October, 1960. And an Executive council made up of mostly Nigerians, led by a Prime Minister Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Nigeria’s first government was a coalition of conservative parties, and it came into power on the back of increasingly enthusiastic demands for political independence from colonial powers that swept across much of the African continent during the middle of the 20th century.

The government that came into power on 1st of October comprised of the Nigerian people’s congress (NPC), the National council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) and the Action Group (AG) constituted the opposition. The NPC political party was largely Hausa and Muslim, NCNC are mainly igbo and Christian, and the AG are mostly Yoruba.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!
