My Stint at the National Forest Reserve, Akamkpa

Traveling is one of the things in my life which I do not know how I will curb. I spent a lot of money traveling last year. In fact, my new year resolution for 2018 was that I was going to stay at home. I took this initiative for two reasons:

  1. To enjoy my rent. I paid a full year's rent and I am yet to stay a in my apartment for one full month without going anywhere.
  2. To save money. Obvious explanations. True story!

However, in one of my trips to the rain-forest vegetations of the country, I saw myself in the National Forest Reserve at Akamkpa; one of the top eco-tourism sites in the world. Apart from the forest being a hot-spot for all sorts of greeneries, including trees and shrubs and climbers, it is also home to the African gorilla and elephants.

One of the best things of this location or site is that it allows for sober reflection and retreat, amidst the unsteady chirpings of the nocturnals and funny sounds of jumping and climbing mammals. We were however unlucky to have scared almost all of the mammals we were supposed to see. That was not without some evidence of their existence.

IMG_0103.JPGThe forest guide said that this was a source of sodium for the forest mammals, especially the monkeys and related species.

We had good fun with the plants, the trees and the animals that we managed to hear their various sounds, without catching a glimpse. #sad.

20170810_150759.jpg I wear my glasses everywhere. Even in the waters. My eyes are that super!

The waters had a buzzing and bubbling demeanor that day. It was vibrant and alive, as we stripped and made our ways into it. I might want to call out one or two friends of mine who were so afraid that they could'nt enter the water, but they are not here. Yes! I would invite them and call them out on another post.

Throwback to when they said I could'nt!

One thing about joining a community of people you do not know, is that you come to understand the reason why people of said cultures, background or religion, behave the way they do. In the upcoming pictures, we had people from Mozambique, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Benin Republic, coming together under the auspice of Aisec Calabar, in order to explore nature in it's finest.
