WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A WIFE?
Let a young man seek one to stand by his side who is fitted to bear her share of life's burdens, one whose influence will ennoble and refine him, and who will make him happy in her love. Ministry of Healing p.359
Characteristics from the book The Adventist Home for Wife and Mother:
Faithfulness, a noble character, a good home manager, willing to nurture and train children, have a close relationship with God, be a good example, have a positive and cheerful attitude, be loving, orderly, clean, live a healthy lifestyle, spend time outside, get exercise, prepare healthful meals, have self confidence (is not in bondage to the opinion of others), neat and pure.
FOR BOTH SEXES
―Eve was created from a rib taken from the side of Adam, signifying that she was not to control him as the head, nor to be trampled under his feet as an inferior, but to stand by his side as an equal, to be loved and protected by him. A part of man, bone of his bone, and flesh of his flesh, she was his second self, showing the close union and the
affectionate attachment that should exist in this relation.”—Ellen G. White, Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 46, emphasis supplied.
God’s ideal for marriage is expounded in this verse Genesis 2:24 ―Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh‖. When the time came to leave those closest to him, his parents, man’s first earthly loyalty was to be to his wife. She was to occupy the foremost place in his affections. In God’s order the union of bodies between husband and wife is to follow their commitment in marriage. The biblical order “leave . . . cleave . . . and they shall be one flesh” tragically and defiantly has been turned upside down, with tragic results.
