AFRICAN MOTHER'S COMMUNICATION MOSTLY IN THE ATMOSPHERE

In Nigeria where I come from, there are several ways to pass information to individuals or a group of people. Communication happens between different class of people, but I will like to streamline my thought to the parent to children kind of relationship. See! In Africa, and especially nigeria, the communication between parents to children are mostly non-verbal and exists in the atmosphere. The kid involved is just meant to catch the info rolling in the atmosphere and do the needful. On special cases where the information is not accurately digested, verbal and physical method is then used.

In Nigeria for example, if you follow your mom to an outing or a family friend's house, when offered any form of welcoming gift either in food or drinks, many times the child looks at the mother first as the information on her face determines whether the gift should be collected or not. I'm sure many Nigerians can relate with this. The way she looks at you just sends a whole message to you that you are not suppose to receive what's been offered.

Let's assume the child does not pick the information in the atmosphere, the mother smiles and waits expectantly till she gets home with the child. There are two things that can happen when you get home, either you are asked to serve a particular punishment or choose not to eat your due meal for the time being. In all African mothers are the best and they train you so well by not even speaking a word most times.

Over the years, this method of communication between African mothers and children has been more effective than the verbal communication technique. It still works.

Should it be stopped looking at the information age we are in right now?
