This is my entry for the satire poetry contest, found here.
Thanks @sature for holding it, it was great fun doing.
My poem's based on the tradition of lead-melting, which is an actual thing people in Austria do for New Years' eve. Image taken from here.
Molten Lead
Local tradition has it,
That to end the year
You take a piece of lead
And hold it near
A candle.
Till it melts.
Then throw it in water,
cold.
And since the days of old
the resulting shape tells true
What the new year
Holds for you.
Last year mine was bed-shaped.
And so I faked a flu
until 12 months were thru'.
But now I'm up again.
This year I hope for
something more abstract;
Like a digestive tract
or a fusion core.
So I can steadily ignore:
interpretations
congratulations
obligations.
And just focus on my wine
Dreaming of a better time.
When we'll all be free of dread
Not bound by some piece of lead.
Have a great holiday season! With love, ul1yck1t!
