What is Nipah Virus(NiV)?
As per World Health Organisation (WHO) NiV is a newly emerging Zoonosis that causes severe illness among animals and humans.
First Detected: Malaysia and Singapore in 1988, primarily caused in pigs which transferred to humans.
The virus can be transferred by infected bats, pigs, humans.
In 2004, humans who consumed date palm sap infected by fruit bat, caught virus as well
Sign and symptoms:
*It's an airborne transmission infection usually associated with inflammation of brain causing severe fever leading to state of confusion, disorientation & drowsiness.
*If not taken early care leads to coma in span of 24-48 hours.
*Patient show neurological, respiratory and plumonary signs as well
Prevention and Care:
*No vaccine available, only way is through intensive supportive care
- Avoid direct contact with infected pigs, bats and humans.
*Peopt avoid eating infected fruits
*Awareness program by state Health department, hospitals and local government bodies
