Hammer - Hammer (1970, US)
For a band which only released one album (A second album was recorded but never released) they bring high octane progressive and fiery beats with a very tight unison playing. It brings to mind an early Santana and Brian Auger resemblance, though also implementing a more direct rock feel to the sound. From experience the rawness lies in almost every bands first release, which tells the originating influence and initial direction the group wanted. Even though this is a single album release from a almost unknown band, its close to my heart. The song TUANE got some funk and motown elements with a bit higher tempo and also features some jazz influenced vocalization, which always brings it home for me. IF DONE RIGHT ;) Enjoy!
John De Roberts - vocal
Jack O'Brien - guitar
Norman Landsberg - keyboards
Ritchie McBride - bass
John Guerin - drums
Ken Janick - drums on track 6
