find your niche. Something you are passionate about, something you will b known for that wiill add value to others. Once people are able to identify you with something you become their "go to" person

Socialize. Steemit is a community, a social media platform so the more "friends " you have the more you can get out of steemit
its not just about the money. If all you care about is the money you will not get far.
you have to give to get. As @ejemai would say

you have to put something in to get something out

Invest in the platform. Your time, your money, your intellect. Don't be quick to spend what you earn... Put it back into the system let it work for you.

participate in contests. Contests are a great way to make some extra sbd. Check out the contest tag
use the right tags. Your tags must be relevant to your post.
post contructive comments. Don't spam people's posts or drop meaningless comments. Comments are actually the best way for a newbie to start earning on steem it. But if you have nothing to say, upvote and go your way or don't. Jst don't post pointless comments
