One question maybe you can help me with - while I have some FUTURE in my ByteBall I don't have any bytes to use for transactions. How do I overcome that?

First of all you have to wait until your reputation in Steemit is above 60
If your reputation is above 60 and you verify your Obyte wallet (ByteBall) with Steemit you get 10$ in Gbyte (reputaion above 70 gives you 160$). If you do it before that you will never get anything.
You can exchange Gbyte with FUTURE in the wallet.
