XMPT #4 - How to make a very basic kickdrum sound with the native Ableton synth Operator!

in #norway7 years ago (edited)

Welcome to another episode of @xtetrahedron's music production tips (XMPT)

Today i want to show you how to make a very basic kickdrum in the Ableton synth Operator.

If you fiddle a bit with the parameters you see me using in the video, i'm sure you can get a much better kick then what i threw together. The magic behind making a kick from a synthesizer is in the amp envelope and the pitch envelope.

I wanted to do this mostly as a quick experiment for myself to see what the native Ableton synths could do. Normally i craft my kicks with the VST plugins Kick2 or BazzISM, and i would recommend you to check these out if you want more control over your envelopes!

The bass that i test the kick with in the video might be the subject of a future post. Its also made in Operator (and i have way more experience using Operator for bass!) :)
