RE: Very Weird Keyboard: Mattel Bee-Gees Rhythm Machine

in #nostalgialast year

It seems a lot of the early toy keyboards fetch silly money today. I think nostalgia is a factor. I'd not seen this one before. I wonder how many kids got into music through playing it.

We do have a Stylophone somewhere. I ought to play with that some time. It's actually a reissue my daughter had as the originals came out when I was kid. I did have a Yamaha SHS-10 in my 20s. It was not that special, but I see them for £200 on ebay!

I never owned a Stylophone but I definitely played with one my friend had back in the day. I loved everything synthesizer as a kid, but could never afford a good one.

You know what's crazy? When I was about 12 or 13 I found a Rhodes keyboard in a dumpster that had nothing wrong with it. I took it home and plugged it in, all excited, then played with it and thought "Oh gross, it sounds like 70s music"... I gave it to someone from what I remember. As an 80s kid, we wanted nothing to do with anything that sounded funky or 70s. It was right up there with bell bottoms and butterfly collars. Seems so weird to think now. That keyboard would be worth a LOT now.

Oh yeah! haha.. The 'keytar'. Those were fun back then.
