Notion site load too slowly compare to alternative SimpleInk

in #notion6 days ago

Previously I tested Notion site to host my own Linktree style page using a Notion page which is located at https://walterjay.fr/ the backend for the page is still on my personal Notion which I made public but I had to switch back to my prior hosting partner for making it available at my own domain instead of notion site.

First on Notion I had to use the subdomain www which I wasn't a big fan of and this was causing some issue as I couldn't just route all traffic because I was using other subdomain. I don't know is that caused some issue for sure but I noticed that the page wasn't loading as fast as before when using simple Ink (a provider that can host multiple notion pages with fast service and potential added feature on top)

I did try them before switching for Notion Sites as you can see in my previous article about that, I was happy with the service but I thought it was good to remove a third party and leaving only Notion.

It didn't turn out that good, I have discovered that Simple Ink did put a lot of thought into designing their product and they actually now what they are doing. When deploying a new website it does work straight out of the gate and is actually optimize to serve website.

After a few month on Notion sites I have reverted even with the sunk cost of yearly subscription to the service for just one domain which you have to pay extra for and subscribe to their premium account which isn't competitive in term of price or speed as of now.

I believe Notion is going in the right direction with that and it the Site product is in its first year and I am sure they will improve it over time but for the moment I will stick with Simple Ink, and if I do more site I might even consider using them with their unlimited offer which will reduce cost if I do scale.

Simple Ink

Quick screenshot below of the simple interface to manage your website. Of course you still have to do some work on your DNS to connect and point them at the right place but once this is done it work way faster then Notion Sites, at least that is my experience. And you still keep the advantages Notion (public/share) for fast live content updates.

I haven't explored all their features like password protected site but I might in the future maybe combining it with Inleo Subs in some ways, which I still need to be deploying but have been slacking on defining what I will offer for that.

I do feel like everything is slowly coming together in term of web exposure, I just need to keep working on that and my projects.

Both Notion and Simple Ink have SEO features which I will be using.

As of this moment my site is up but some of the links still need to be worked on, I want to connect for example blog.walterjay.fr to my inleo travel article, popping an Angular frontend that will retrieve the articles with the right tags to my sites so people that are not on the blockchain or just want to easily check only my travel article can do so.

InLeo ref link

On my site I did put my inleo referral link and I will try to get people I meet to go to my site and use the link to tryout the platform. I am trying to create a funnel to my site to redirect future traffic to my links, project and platforms I support.

I will do the same in this article with my Simple Ink affiliate link. If you want to host a notion page on the web with a custom domain and building a small website with this stack here is the link https://simple.ink?ref=walterjay

I would appreciate it if you used it while signing up.

Screenshot of my site below, the link with the inleo logo will redirect here with my link.

PS: I still see an imperfection, the Notion logo is still being used as a favicon at least on safari for me so I have to look into that so it does show mine instead.

For people following my travel article, I will try to write one soon and post it on Inleo. Until then see you later.
