I used to ask a lot of questions. Like, "how do other artists make their works to look very dark?" I often try that with 6b, 8b, and 12b pencils. I shade them over and over again but to no avail. They don't get to my desired taste.
Not until I try using this medium - Mont Marte soft - charcoal pencil before I go the result.
Initially, I didn't work out instantly - I had to use a soft painting brush to blend it gently. When I started, I was a bit nervous and timid, but I surmounted courage to get going before I discovered it was actually this process some of the artists use.
You can see in the images below that the drawing has white dots all over, it doesn't look very dark and smooth - those dots are caused by the nature of the paper.
However, after I used soft painting brush to blend it, it came out nicely, smooth and textured.
The outcome after blending
Personally, this is a new thing I have discovered in art.
Just like the saying, the more you draw, the more you learn, this piece is no exception.
Another thing I discovered is how to start work with a charcoal pencil and achieve your desired goal - by moving from dark tones to highlights.
Thank you.
Nice work. Charcoal is fun to play with.
Anyways nice to see your work again as I was lost for a while.
