Just back from a walk in winter wonderland. In the south of Germany, we "enjoy" a lot of snow right now and when the weather is nice and sunny, it can be wonderful outside. Nevertheless, I'm not a winter person and as I'm dreaming of summer, still a few month away, this painting comes to my mind.
The German title is "Kaffee im Garten" (coffee in the Garden). Its really only meant to be a joyful and funny painting. The original was actually done the other way round, with the figure facing to the right. But I also offer it as a print and a counter piece to the King and thought it would be nice, if they were looking at each other. Therefore she looks to the left in this digitally altered version.
If you look close enough, you'll see a little Italian village, daisys and cypress trees, which all represent summer and warm weather for me. And in the middle of it all, the queen, enjoying a nice cup of coffee in her garden in a sunny afternoon.
All done in graphite pencil, watercolor and acrylics as outlined in this post about my special technique.
I enjoy reading your comments!

I really enjoy your creative style. Your painting bring me to a dream world. I want to drink coffee at the queen's garden too.

Thank you and welcome to my dream world then. When I paint, I feel as if I am in the place I am creating and wanting to have that cup of coffee in the queens garden makes us two! :-)
Haha! Great! Let's have the coffee together.

Thanks a lot! You have a very keen eye, so your judgment means a lot to me!
Absolutely delightful. Love the texture in the larger areas and the detail in the smaller areas. The landscape at the bottom and the queen's towering head is fabulous @reinhard-schmid.

Thank you! I really played with the textures and the options different media have to offer. The watercolor on the "dress" leaves a completely different effect compared to the sky for instance. Of course, I enjoy to always add those little details :-)
Honey, you have a great technique, I like every detail that you have put to your work, the small town can be appreciated very well.
What I have realized is that it is a GREAT KING! hehheh, he's enjoying his tea a lot.

Ahm... to prevent misunderstanding, the King is here :-)
The body shape of the queen looks so interesting @reinhard-schmid. A master of art anatomy like you can create bodies in any shape but still look great !!

Its a challenge I like in many fields... to make something look right, when it isn't. I think, in this case one "feels" the picture more than one actually sees it. When I paint, I often try to get into this completely connected state and hope, the feeling is being transmitted back to the viewer of the finished artwork.
It's really a great challenge @reinhard-schmid You can play on it based on your strong fundamentals. In art sometime we can not understand but we still can feel and love it !

A big thank you, as always for your kind attention :-)
You're not the first person who said something about snow in South Germany. I find it very funny as I'm in North Switzerland (Schaffhausen) and it keeps raining here :)
Your queen is such a nice character. I like her tiny feet and her huge body. It is such a sweet contrast. She looks relaxed so it must have been a good cup of tea :)
Thank you for sharing!
Ok... Schaffhausen might not necessarily be the place that comes to mind when one thinks of Switzerland and Mountains. Although I know there is much more to your beautiful country and you definitely live in a magnificent place... Actually I think I wouldn't mind the rain for a milder climate. Particularly since I think you are not far from lots of snow if you were really longing for it ;-)
Thank you for your kind words about my queen... and you are right, maybe she is having tea ;-)
You are right, Schaffhausen is not the place that would come to mind in regards to snow.. but from the distance perspective it's interesting to see that there is lots of snow everywhere around Schaffhausen, just not here.. Then you can consider coming here over the weekend to visit the Rheinfall as it's supposed to be 11 degrees and rain on Saturday.. :)
We go to the mountains all year long but last couple of weeks were not possible as it's been snowing all days.. we don't ski so we would go for a walk and to take some photos.. well, if you're in the clouds it's not that much fun :) I hope that it will be better this Sunday so we can finally go there again as I do miss mountains..
She looks like a tea person :)
Like I said, you live in a great place. I've been to the Rheinfall twice in my life. The second time on a motorcycle trip just a few years back. Spectacular! I'll take that any time for a snowy mountain ;-)
da kann ich Dir nur recht geben!
The first picture i thought it was a man sitting down with a very big belly
Well, the big belly is there. Maybe the dress and jewelry would look a bit funny on a man. At least for my European eye ;-)
Hello Reinhard. I am so glad to see your work again, this is wonderful, I like incredibly how you make your drawings. You are a talented artist, you have your own style. I am proud of your talent, keep it up! I look forward to your new work! Thanks you!
Thanks a lot for your kind words about my work. I think we both do our work with passion and devotion, so its nice to see this kind of appreciation. :-)
You are right, my dear friend! To creativity you need to be given in full.
As you know @reinhard-schmid I LOVE this piece! And all of your work, it's so full of joy and life and colour. And I always NEED that in my life.
I was happily enjoying the warm Spring that is Southern England but of course had to cut my time short and am now in ICY COLD Michigan with family.
My friend sent me a photo yesterday from our English garden and the snow drops are in full bloom and even the daffodils are out...Oh well, I'll be back at Toad Hall soon, which is at least warmer than Michigan, and then it'll be Spring, one of my favourites!
I think we both need these aspects you mention. And without, the world would be a sad place. I get the same feeling from your work.
Is pretty cold over here right now as well, but they are predicting warmer weather for next week. Would be nice, as I have to go to Paris for "Art en Capital", where two of my paintings will be in the Salon Comparaisons with the Kandl Group "Libellule".
Oh @reinhard-schmid I wish I was still in UK it would be amazing to go to Paris and see your work...Oh well, it can't be helped. I am sure you will share it on here though, so we can all see it :)
And now I know who to contact when I am ready to have my children's picture books illustrated!
Tell me you are already a big shot in that world....I don't want to hear why not!!
They went to the trouble to build her a tall chair, but her table is normal height. Must be frustrating when she wants to put her tea down. haha
Love this, Reinhard :) The exaggerated proportions work so well with your style as it really adds to the vibes of fairy tale / otherland feel :) Gorgeously coloured, as well <3 Love your style so much!
(sorry i'm just catching up now with commenting after i returned from holiday !!!)
