If you're not familiar with Numerai, it is a decentralised hedge fund where 19,000 and counting statisticians bet on their own models' ability to forecast the future.
There are some big names associated with it, including Juan Benet (Filecoin), Fred Erhsam (Coinbase) and Olaf Carlson-Wee (Polychain Capital).
Numerai is the token used within the Numerai platform. Statisticians post stakes in Numerai on their own models. They lose the Numerai if their model permorms poorly, but they win Numerai rewards if their model predicts the future.
There is a cap on numerai of 21 million, and on 21 June 1.2 million numerai were distributed to 19,000 statisticians.
There is no ICO. The tokens are not yet listed on exchanges. But here are 2 ways you can buy them before they hit the exchanges.
- Buy from someone on the Numerai slack channel
You can get a slack invite here: https://slack.numer.ai/. The people there so far are great, I have purchased tokens in one to one deals. Normally what happens is you agree on a price, then you exchange proceeds in batches.
Then you recommend whoever you dealt with in one of the channels.
- Buy from the trust-less / decentralised CryptoDerivatives.Market exchange
If you're feeling less adventurous, head on over to: https://cryptoderivatives.market/token/NMR
NMR sellers post smart contracts onto the exchange that send you NMR tokens when you deposit ETH into them, at the rate displayed on the site. I have used it, and can vouch for it.
Unless you know what you're doing, go with the "Taker Buy" option. Hope this screenshot helps:

Please do not take any of this as a recommendation of any kind. Do your diligence before dipping your toes into anything.
Cheers!

I like numerai, it's a very promising project now for sale at a discount because of the bear market. The market cap is ridiculously low.
