Tragedy upon tragedy is the result of neglect to act based on the notion of behaving appropriately. Everyone on that flight could have stood up against the flight attendant and the ridiculous requirements she enforced. I agree with you that compassion should take precedence. This story was chilling. I couldn't even wrap my head around the indecency of the flight attendant. But to think people sat around with a puppy locked up in a box is just sick. All of those people would sit there minding their business if a child was in a car trunk??? Probably...
This is where the family should have done everything possible. I don't know the whole story though- I would not have complied at all.
People often get angry with me because I allow my Autistic child to stim in public instead of spanking him, removing him, or putting him restraints. I'm all for behaving respectfully but what about when forcing ones sense of civility becomes a cold, dangerous or savage act?
Many people simply can't empathize with others that effectively. I often struggle with if I should have understanding for people who are callous in this way (because sometimes, I too, can be callous.)
Where its no longer is a debate (who is right) is when innocent lives are stake. I would even argue for the quality of life for those less in control than we are. RIP puppy. I hope United gets sued to shit and back.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I can't wrap my head around all of this. All I know is that people who blindly follow orders are terrifying.
