Peer-to-peer charity donations
For the past few months, Casper Niebe of Obyte has been working with students at the ITU university in Denmark developing a peer-to-peer charity application using Obyte smart contracts. They are close to having a minimum viable product ready! The students will be presenting their project to others at the ITU university May 13.
Casper is also coordinating with students from the Simón Bolívar University, Venezuela to help assist producers list their products on the platform. If the name Simón Bolívar University sounds familiar - it's because Obyte (then Byteball) made quite an impact there last year.
We are cautiously optimistic that this project will get traction, with Bytes being used to do something government currencies cannot - conditional payments.
Obyte Foundation is now a legal entity
After a lot of paperwork, which took much longer than anticipated, Obyte is now headed by a legal entity! The Obyte Foundation has been registered in Liechtenstein. Having a legal entity will make the platform more appealing to prospective partners, as many potential partners would not deal with third parties that don't have a legal entity.
Obyte Founder Tony Churyumoff commented: ”This project started as a one-man operation, later became a small group of enthusiasts, and now it is moving to a formal organization. With the Foundation, we now have a more solid foundation, a vehicle for realizing our belief that fully open networks like Obyte are an excellent tool for those who want to make the world a better place.”
Help Obyte decentralize faster - action needed
As we wrote in the last newsletter, we have our second independent witness candidate. To help us decentralize faster, please take action by doing A or B:
A. If you think Fabien is a good choice, please update your wallet witness settings to include the new address, FAB6TH7IRAVHDLK2AAWY5YBE6CEBUACF. This takes less than one minute.
B. If you don’t think Fabien is a good choice, leave a comment on this subreddit post.
Selecting public witnesses inside the wallet app is a key feature of the Obyte platform. Please participate!
Hack-a-Train Hackathon
Tarmo from Obyte was in Ukraine recently as a technical mentor and part of the jury for the Hack-a-Train hackathon organized by Garage48. They departed from Mariupol train station, just 20km away from the Ukraine/Russia conflict zone. There were 8 teams on the train that made a working prototype in 28 hours on the train and another 24 hours in the N-ix Lviv office.
Tarmo awarded prizes in Bytes to two teams;
- Brief - A project that wants to build an app where you could get personalized subscription-based local news. Heating Carpet - A hardware project that built a food warming device.
- Each team had 4 members and each member received $125 worth of Bytes. Even though none of the teams took the challenge to build something on the train with the Obyte platform, we hope they integrate Obyte into their existing product or anything else they come up with in the future.
Ethereum or Obyte?
We are experimenting with some new content formats, including quizzes. Take this very short quiz on Ethereum vs Obyte from a developer point of view.
Developer?
Consider Obyte. It’s written in Node.js and is developer friendly.
Would you love to see Obyte become a major platform in the crypto world?
