New Character Draft!

Hey all,

Just wanted to share this exciting news with you! I've been working on storyboarding a new animation series called Checkered Cabinet. It's based on a group of quirky characters that work together in a convenience store called the Checkered Cabinet. Hilarity and shenanigans ensue and I'll save all the details for the first animation. The basic storyboard is completed and I'm working on ironing out and rigging all the 2d characters. Here is one that I just finished in Illustrator today.

She originally looked like this when I first sketched her on the old iPad Pro.

I still have a few details to add to the new girl's outfit and I may make some slight adjustments to her features as well. However, it felt like a good time to step back and appreciate the creation.

Let me know what you guys think of her, and any suggestions you have to the character creation or name (she still needs a name). I'm fairly new to drawing for animations, so this has been a little bit of a learning experience for me. Next will be rigging with the pin tool and using the After Effects add-on DUIK. Duik helps to add in a bone-like structure to the rig points and that along with a nesting hierarchy should make animating a cinch! Fingers crossed.

I'm looking to have a second character all vectored and ready for rigging by tomorrow. So keep a look out if you're interested in the animation process. I'm going to be documenting my steps, and eventually releasing the first episode on dtube.

Thanks for checking in Steemians! Be sure to upvote, follow, and resteem if you enjoy this post.

We are following you. The project seems very interesting :)

Great! It's the first serious animation I've tried so it will be an adventure for sure :) I'm pretty stoked. It's been a long time in the planning and this is a great place to share it.

Interesting! I hadn’t seen DUIK before, I have only used Character Animator for some 2D character anims. Good job with the sketch on the iPad 🤗.

Thank you @jasonwhite. I love the ipad so much. I will have to look into Character Animator; haven't heard of that one. Thanks for the tip :)

Its Adobe's own, works with After Effects. I used a bit when it was in Preview/Beta. It's really good for character facial animation, it follows your head and face and lip-syncs the character with you when you talk in real time. Eyes are followed also!

Wow! Definitely gonna get some of that in my life. It sounds amazing. I was kind of dreading animating the facial expressions, but it might be a lot easier than expected. You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman for sharing your expertise. Do you have any animations to share that used character animator? I'd love to see some of your work.

Hi, here’s a link to a little explanation video I made for a timekeeping app.
It doesn’t have any talking which is a shame it would be much more effect full.

Great video! I love how bouncy and bubbly all the characters are except the girl with the cross earrings, she's more mellow, which fits her. haha They are all very expressive. Can wait to dig in and get my hands dirty with some animation.
