Well, this blog was initially going to be in three parts, however the weather has put a stop to that, but I am so glad I got some pictures that I like.
I have just spent a few days in the Lake District here in the UK, it's one of the most beautiful parts of the country, although can be very busy.
There's an old saying about the Lake District, it goes something like this:
"If you can see the hills at the other side of the lake, it's about to rain, if you can't see the hills, it's raining" - Nothing could have been more apt about this trip, we had all sorts of weather, and yes, the lake district is one of the wettest parts of the UK.
The first day we got there, the weather wasn't too bad, we spent the afternoon on the banks of Lake Windermere and had a browse around Bowness-On-Windermere, the nearest town to the banks.
It was pretty busy, the amount of tourism there is unbelievable, and I think it would give any seaside town a run for it's money.
Bowness is on a steepish hill, which is quite long that leads up to the town of Windermere, which again, is a lovely looking town, with old buildings made from (I think) local stone.
If you ever get the chance I highly recommend visiting the lake district, it's a stunning place, but has it's own micro-climate, so always take a rain coat lol.
Day two came around, it was very very overcast. You couldn't even make out the peaks of the surrounding hills, we went on a boat trip on the lake getting the boat to Ambleside, the boats are fantastic and so smooth on the lake, you can hardly tell you are floating on water, very sturdy vehicles.
It was so relaxing, the sound of the rain and the quiet hum of the engines, I could have stayed on there all day.
We had another wonder around Bowness, and decided we had got rained on enough, so went back to the hotel for the afternoon.
This morning, we were sat awaiting for our breakfast when we were watching the fog, you could just see the peaks of the hills/mountains poking out the top, then before we knew it, the entire hotel was engulfed by it. We were staying about a 10 minute car drive from Bowness, so we headed down hoping for some mist to be over the water, but it was clear as a bell, with some lovely light, so I decided to get the Sigma 150-600 lens on and do some telephoto photography, I'm really loving the shots of the hills and mountains with this lens, the light was lovely.
We had another boat trip, this time down to the bottom side of the lake, and once we got back, we decided to start our trip back to Yorkshire, I was freezing as I'd got my rain jacket on, which stops water, but for some reason, doesn't stop the wind getting to your bones lol.
We saw a sign for Morcambe on the way back, knowing it was a seaside town, we decided to have a look and see what it was like, we headed down to the west promenade, and to be honest, the promenade part was nice, but the surrounding buildings looked very run down, not the nicest place I have been, but not long after we had parked up, the heavens decided to open.
The picture above is a panorama of part of the beach as the weather was closing in on ourselves.
We headed to the nearest shelter because of the rain, which turned out to be a KFC, we had lunch then headed home, going through the east side of Morcambe which looked much nicer.
I would like to go back and explore some more of the town. Maybe next year.
If you are wondering about visiting the Lakes, DO IT!!. I have only seen a small pocket of them, and there is so much exploring and photography that I NEED to do on future trips, just be aware, it can be expensive and busy, so best to get to places early on for parking the car up.
I hope you've liked this blog, and I just want to thank you for reading.
