Hello and good morning all,
Late start to the day today as we had another 2ft of snow dumped on us here in upstate NY. I had to move some of it out of my way, both at the house and the workshop. I'm over this weather already..
Anyway here is a piece I carved for a good customer. Her newfoundland pup portrait..in wood
Dogs are way out of my comfort zone but my parents used to breed newfies back in the day. So I am familiar and took on the job.
Here it is after a few minutes of blocking out. Found the form freestyle..
After a few more freestyle cuts, I had to look at pictures and mark the log.
Dialed it in using every tool possible..
It was now ready for the torch..
It looked good just as it was, torched..you know the Japanese will torch every board and post they build with and apparently this method will outlast treated lumber by 50 or more years. Fun fact...
Next I added paint using a paintbrush and an airbrush.
Varnished him then added the white after to finish off.
My customer was so happy with it, that it brought her to tears.
I hope you enjoyed seeing what I saw, if so feel free to upvote and reblog. I love what I do and I'm happy to share here on Peakd. Please do stay tuned as I have much more to share on this awesome platform.
Thanks for looking,
Jon
