In my previous write up I talked about my journey of how I started copywriting and how I think it has improved my literacy life in general. I also talked a little about having interest in brand management which I elaborated more on LinkedIn as a space for outreach.
The truth is I didn’t fully explain what my goals with learning copywriting as a skill were.
You see for young people in my generation the most effective way to influence or become a voice is through social media and having a bogus online presence which begs the question- can you really be an important member of society without social media influence? And what do you need as a brand to increase your influence in the world.
My mentor and friend, who is a seasoned brand strategist spoke to me some weeks ago about personal branding with regards to online presence. She made me to understand that branding takes more than just making your profile look good on the outside. Your brand should be your lifestyle. You can not be a joker on Twitter and have a seperate life on LinkedIn they have to be a connection to your personality as this speaks well for you. I mean I ended up creating a professional Twitter account after having that conversation with her but yeah you get the point.
ELEVATOR PICTH
What about an elevator pitch? This is the most important. This is the first 20 to 30 seconds you have to tell someone you are meeting for the first time who you are and what you represent. It basically saying my name is- I am a-, I work for or with people who- and that is it.
The truth is it takes a lot to change your brand or build up a good image brand. For that your ideas need to change and you need to see branding as a lifestyle and not just a branch of your life.
So for people like you and I struggling to find a voice in this generation where influence is a valuable asset then we need to look deeper into our brand representation and figure out how we can make our public brand output more appealing to the world at large.
I will tell you for free the difference between iPhones and other mobile phones is simple unique branding style let that sink in.
