The latest book that I read was a re-read of John Morris' 'The Age of Arthur'. There is still some life kicking around in my former existence as a medievalist.
I'm currently reading Keith Ammann's 'The Monsters Know What They're Doing' which is a wonderful nerdy drill-down into fleshing out behaviour (and especially combat tactics, but oh well) of traditional 'monsters' in RPGs (specifically D&D but hey ho). I'm loving it (or to be more specific, my 11 year old self is loving it) even though I will probably never actually use it for the purpose it was created for. I'm pushing 50 years old now, and my infrequent roleplaying focuses around Pendragon, Runequest / Heroquest, Ars Magica. It would be nice to feel like I had enough time left to indulge in reliving the D&D of my early youth, but I already feel the pressure of having too many things to complete in the time I have left :-)
Lined up as my prospective next read after that is Margaret Heffernan's 'Uncharted: How to Map the Future Together'. I heard her being interviewed on Radio 4's 'The Spark' and I ordered her book the same day.
What I am doing (that is taking up most of my time) is creating. I'm currently sitting here with just shy of a dozen books open at various places, with improvised bookmarks noting various other pages, while I write resources for my students, design graphics to illustrate issues for them visually, and record and edit video material for them to (hopefully) understand. We commence in September, and I would love to be able to break for a short holiday in a couple of weeks knowing that I have broken the back of this project (who am I kidding?!?).
Hey! I will check out the titles! I can relate with ordering books as soon as you hear an interview with someone, that's how I ordered some Harriet Lerner books, the way she talked really made me want to order. The same happened now with Jim. Rohn. After listening to him, I had to get the books.
Creating does take a big part of our time, but it is the best thing you can do for your inner self.
Thank you for reading me!
