Making a Homemade Mayonnaise for our Lettuce Salad

Mayonnaise is basically made in eggs and oil. It is combining these two ingredients with salt, mustard, lemon juice or vinegar, sugar and some pepper and pickles.

Mayonnaise is common to used in burgers and salad dressings. The rich taste and creamy texture makes food more delightful to eat. Perfect for bread spreads that makes sandwiches delicious like tuna and egg sandwiches.

One of the important thing to consider in making homemade mayo was to choose the best oil and fresh organic egg. I also learned some people uses olive oil but it has a strong after taste yet it is quite healthier.

Considering an oil that has no strong flavor or that stingy smell would be good to try like canola oil, sunflower and avocado oil or any vegetable oil. Egg yolks, egg whites or whole eggs can be used also. It is a matter of trying to make it with your own hand.

The down side that I saw in making mayonnaise was the fact that it has a lot of oil content which the creamy texture came from. Aside from egg alone, I was hesitant to make it at first knowing I would be using raw eggs and palm oil.

For the mean time much better to start with affordable price to see if I can make one. I prepared the following

blender, electric hand mixer
1 whole eggs and 1 egg yolk
salt, sugar and vinegar
1 cup palm oil


Here's how:

1.In a glass jar, I place eggs and submerge it in a boiling water for atleast less than a minute. It is a simple way to cook or just heat it. Not to cooked it anways.

2.In a large bowl, I combine egg, salt, sugar and vinegar. Whisk it until it becomes frothy. Using spoon pour oil while whisking it.

I had a hard time to make it thicker. I chose switch and use blender. In just few second it turned out thick and creamy.

3.Pouring oil into the top lid while blender doing it's job. I check the consistency and it is perfectly creamy.

I transfer it in my chosen glass jar and prepare my lettuce salad with boiled eggs. This is so simple. Lettuce, tomato, white onion, pepper and my homemade mayo is ready for serving.

I'm in love with these greens! I'm surprised that my mayo really taste good. It is creamy and rich. Not sour, not too sweet and salty. The taste is balance and I think the final taste would depend on you.

You can adjust according to your own prefered tast if you want it to be sweet, or soury just add mustard. I don't have mustard on hand but definitely will have to try it too later.

I will recommend to try this using blender or that hand blender really do well.
