Oculus Go Review from a Novice

in #oculus7 years ago (edited)

I want to take time to talk about something that is not real at all, but it is really cool. The new Oculus Go is changing the game. Bringing virtual reality to the masses at an affordable price and allowing a large number of people to experience something that can really impact their life.    I have owned this for a week. Actually, my kids are the owners.  I just put them to bed early now so I can take a turn. I have never tried personal VR before. I think I bought the strap to fit your phone into because it was on clearance but I never went through the hassle of setting it up.   This is why the new Oculus Go is a game changer. Out of the box it is ready to go. There are a few simple steps you need to take by signing up through the app or website. Within 15 minutes of taking it out of the box you should be ready to use it.

I won’t get too technical here. I think it is best reviewed from your average Joe who does not have much experience in the virtual space. All I will say is that I have read other reviews and they said the Oculus go “dumbs down” the progress VR has made. You are not able to walk around, just 360 degree views. In my opinion, this is not a big deal. I am not experienced with VR and this is just an opportunity for an enhancement upon next release.    Here is what I found. There is a vast amount of knowledge that can be consumed from VR. This device is affordable to the masses. It gives a larger range of socioeconomic backgrounds ability to view or see places they may never have a chance to go. If you are in a wheel chair you can see places in the world that just may not be as easily accessible or even affordable.
Another feature that is helping fuel those virtual enthusiasts, games. There are plenty of games on the Oculus Go. This is not what my primary use for the device is but the kids and I am sure many adults will love all the interactive games you can access.    There was a lot of buzz about the device when it first came out at the end of April. I have not heard as much about it recently. Curious if anyone has used the device and can offer a short review or add to or subtract from anything I have mentioned. I give the device a 4.5 out of 5. There is ALWAYS room for improvement but for the first affordable easy to use out of box VR device this is a must try and well worth the money. Hope to hear what others thought.

Disclaimer: I can't upload photos for this.  Always have trouble getting photos into my post.  If anyone has any hints or can direct me to some tutorials that are easy and quick that would be great.  Picture tells 1,000 words so we will see if anyone reads this without a couple pictures in there first.
