So you want to live off the grid eh? Part 5

Chris began searching for property that night. By the time I woke up and poured myself a coffee he was ready to show me about 50 that he had bookmarked.

We had a budget and at that time, in his mind he thought between 5 to 30 acres should suffice. We ended up halving the list pretty quickly, poured another cup of coffee and perused the rest more leisurely. Some were at the very high end of our budget so there was no play room, so we nixed those, some had hydro which would be nice, but the whole idea was to get away from hydro and bills so we nixed those, some had no access and would have doubled the budget instantly, which left one, and in reading it over again came to realize it was a lease.

We then began discussing what was important to us and what exactly off the grid meant to each of us, because we were two very different people with probably two very different concepts. I'd bet on it 😜

  • we both wanted to get out of debt and bring our cost of living down
*we both didn't want to see other houses, cars, neighbours etc
*we both wanted to be closer to our families
*we still wanted access to groceries and necessities (1 hour away maximum)
*we both wanted to be self sufficient ( he knew how , I would supposedly learn )
*we both wanted a place where our children and their children's children always had a place to get away from the world
We were on the same page after all.
So Chris started looking at bigger property, smaller towns, farther up north and we found 2. One was 143 acres and one was 117 acres and still in budget 👍
We were going to go visit our daughter so it seems we were going to have a couple of stops on the way back.
And it starts....weeeeeeeeeee weeeee weeeee weeeeeeeeeeee
