Oktoberfest is coming! Things only german/bavarian locals know!

Are you planning to visit the Oktoberfest in Munich (the only TRUE Oktoberfest!) this year?
For those not knowing what I am talking about: Oktoberfest is the worlds biggest beer fest rooted in Bavarian tradition.

Here are some tips that might help you have a successful adventure, no matter whether you want to beat the Germans at one of their favorite sports (drinking beer) or whether you just want to enjoy the biggest folk festival worldwide.

  1. Beer is bought in tents. Tents tend to be chronically overcrowded.
    --> visit the tends during working days (Mo. - Do.)
    --> If you visit on Sa. or So., make sure to be there at the latest 1 p.m.

  2. Tents are regularly closed during the day because they are overcrowded. But doors are irregularly re-open for a few minutes (Tends have at least 4 different doors)
    --> Try the side doors and not the main doors (chances are higher to get in)

  3. Don't take too much money with you. After 3l Beer, you won't have your expenses under control - and stuff on the Oktoberfest is VERY expensive.
    --> 100€ is more than sufficient for 1 person.

  4. As said previously, it is very expensive: 1l Beer (called 'eine Maß'), costs on average around 11€. Food costs something between 6 and 20 €.
    --> Eat and drink a bit before going to the Oktoberfest!

  5. Waiters oversee a row of tables (around 30 tables) for which they are uniquely responsible. On average about 10 person sits at one table. So you can imagine how long it can take to get a beer
    --> don't forget to tip! could work some magic (;

  6. Accommodations and sleepovers in Munich during this period are very expensive! Actually, most of them are probably booked out months before the Oktoberfest starts.
    --> try to find some accommodations in villages around munich, preferably one with an 's-Bahn'-station (public transport).

Thank you for reading through!
I'd appreciate both positive and negative feedback.

Servus! (;
